CA vs CS vs CMA

Every commerce student after completing his 12th standard, is in the dilemma of which professional course to choose from. The big question that stands in front of him is “Whether I should purse CA, CS or CMA?”

CA, CS and CMA are the three most reputed professional courses in the commerce industry. All the three courses have been discussed in details below:

Chartered Accountant (CA)

The Chartered Accountancy Course is considered to be one of the greatest career option in the fields of professional courses. If one is interested in subjects like taxation, auditing and accounting, may opt for this course. To become a Chartered Accountant, it requires to complete three levels of examination and training structure (articleship) of 3 years as specified by ICAI. CA foundation is the first level of exam followed by Intermediate and Final. A student can provisionally register for the CA foundation level right after Class 10 and can appear for the same after appearing in Class 12. It almost takes five years to complete this course, so a candidate deciding to pursue this course need to have skills like good quantitative analytical problem-solving teamwork and ethics. For a course like CA all that matters in the end is how well one can apply practical application from the knowledge gained so far.

Company Secretary (CS)

Company Secretary course is offered by ICSI. Students interested to step in the corporate world and to turn out as a skilled professional may opt for this course. It comprises of three different levels with increasing challenges, but one has to be consistent throughout. CSEET is the entry level followed by CS executive and CS professional with training structure of 21 months. The Company secretary deals with the legal matters of the company and is responsible for administration. It almost three years to complete this course. A candidate seeking this course must be precise about three factors – qualitative study, planning and hard work. With increase in regulation of companies, the demand for CS is increasing with time by providing opportunities and attractive packages to students.

Cost And Management Accounting (CMA)

In recent times Cost Management Accounting course has become popular between the students opting for a career in finance sector. It is a certification program comprising of three level. CMA foundation is the entry level followed by intermediate and final it takes almost 3 to 4 years to complete this course. This course signifies expertise in financial accounting and strategic management and designation as CMA is qualified to be a professional for a wide variety of roles. It holds career potential and mainly focus on valuation issues external financial reporting, etc.

At the end of the day, all that matters is where the interest of the student lies. If the student is interested in a particular course, only then he should pursue it, as only then will he be able to excel in it and prosper his career growth.
